Getting people moving for the energy transition. That is what WarmteLokaal stands for. We help energy cooperatives and municipalities to effectively involve residents in sustainability. With a combination of strategic guidance, communication and participation approach, we ensure that sustainability does not remain an abstract policy, but a real movement within neighborhoods and communities.
WarmteLokaal was born from practice. Fried Broekhof started as a volunteer at the Overhees neighborhood initiative in Soest, from the desire to make his own home more sustainable and to explore aquathermy together with his neighbors. He soon noticed that many local energy initiatives are supported by enthusiastic volunteers with technical knowledge, but that marketing and communication often remain underexposed.
With his background and expertise in this field, Fried decided to volunteer for the project first. This grew into a broader approach, in which strategic communication and participation played a key role in the success of sustainability processes. Based on this experience, WarmteLokaal was founded in 2024 to support energy cooperatives and municipalities with targeted advice, guidance and workshops.
The energy transition will only succeed if people are willing to commit to it. That is why it is not enough to simply provide technical solutions. Change starts with understanding, motivating and activating residents.
We believe in a data and behaviour-oriented approach, in which we use methods such as BSR lifestyles, the residents’ journey and the Energy Canvas to develop tailor-made strategies. This helps energy cooperatives and municipalities to tailor their message and approach to the needs of their target group.
